Volunteers Improve Austin House By House | Community Spirit
(ABC 6 News) -- A group of Austin residents came together to spruce up their city on Monday.
About 40 volunteers gathered at different homes around town to help out with a number of home improvement projects.
Volunteers helped with painting, cement work, and brush removal, among other projects.
The homes were selected because, for various financial or physical restrictions, their owners were incapable of fixing them themselves.
Organizers said it was an easy way for people to make a noticeable difference in their community.
“What we want is for people to take pride in their homes and for people that volunteer to be able to drive by and say, ‘I helped do that. I helped make that place a better home,’” said Geoff Smith, the project leader.
The event was organized by the Vision 2020 Community Pride initiative, in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity and the Austin Rotary Club.
The group will continue their work later this month and is still asking for volunteers.
