Radio Tower Blocks Road

It turned out to be a bigger job than anyone expected.

Mower County authorities say a Taopi man was moving a base for a radio tower through the city of Lansing Sunday night when the tower came into contact with an overhead power line.

The 19-by-23-foot tower was being moved just before seven o'clock Sunday night.

The mover was able to back the tower out of harms way without damaging the power line.

But the move blocked a north-south blacktop road in Lansing for more than an hour.

Sheriff's deputies say the mover did not have the proper permit or a law enforcement escort, and could be cited.

The tower base was moved off the road, pending the proper permit.
