Albert Lea Couple Sentenced to A Year in Prison for Fake Money

An Albert Lea husband and wife who admitted making fake money will each spend one year in federal prison.

That's the sentence handed down Monday to 31-year-old Travis and 34-year-old Heather Cameron.  They were indicted along with six others in 2011 for their involvement in a counterfeiting ring that targeted businesses along Interstate 35 between the Twin Cities and Iowa.

Federal investigators say they washed five dollar bills and re-printed them to look like hundreds.  "The defendants in this case were relatively sophisticated in their means of counterfeiting U.S. currency. They used a process commonly referred to as  bleaching notes," says Special Agent Louis Stephens, with the U.S. Secret Service.
