Mower County Under Burning Ban | News

It's another sign of just how dry it really is.
The Mower County Sheriff's Department today issued a burning ban for the county.
It's a result of the continued dry weather -- and the potential that a fire could spread rapidly if it gets out of control.
The ban means you can't burn in the county, even if you already have a burning permit.
"Recreational fires at this point are still allowed, but we'll continue to evaluate that" said Sheriff Terese Amazi. "We have to have some measurable precipitation, so the trace amounts we've been getting is not going to release us from the burning ban."
"Recreational fires" include things like fire rings and grills.
The ban was put into effect after discussions with the DNR.
